2005 Sauk County Fair Open Class, Special Event Rules Available

BARABOO, WI – (May 1, 2005) – The 2005 Sauk County Fair Open Class Premium Book is now available. The booklet also contains rules for the truck and tractor pulls, demolition derbies and all-terrain vehicle (ATV) races scheduled to take place July 11-17 on the Fairgrounds on Baraboo’s eastside.

Whether adults want to enter woodworking and crocheting or youth want to compete in scrapbooking or chickens, the 2005 rules are essential. The booklet explains each category and special requirements. For example, cookie-makers need to enter three on a plate while gardeners with yellow sweet corn must enter five ears.

Anyone with a long-time hobby or a newfound skill, everyone from youth (not already involved in FFA or 4-H projects) to community-based residential facilities and nursing homes can enter the open class portion of the Fair. They just have to be a county resident, enter original work never before entered at this fair, complete the entry form and mail it with $2 (for each 12 items entered) by June 1. The actual projects must be delivered to the Fairgrounds Wednesday, July 13, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Included in the booklet are regulations for the Tuesday night farm and antique tractor pull, Wednesday night ATV races and Sunday demo derbies. Copies are now available in all Sauk County libraries and chambers of commerce, as well as the University of Wisconsin-Extension office, West Square Building, Baraboo. This information – along with the rules for the May 10th deadline for the Bud Light Battle of the Bands contest and the June 10th deadline for the Fairest of the Fair contest – are also available online at www.saukcountyfair.com.

The Sauk County Agricultural Society, owner of the Fairgrounds and the county’s largest free family entertainment event, worked with Badgerland Farm Credit Services and Foremost Farms USA Cooperative to print the booklets. Admission onto the Fairgrounds remains free and daily free events include the Youth Action Center, 4-H/FFA/Open Class projects, live animals and judging, educational exhibits, commercial vendors and nightly music in the Litscher Pavilion.
