BARABOO, WI—(July 13, 2005)—The
four members of North Freedom’s Sonic Rush band are $1,000 richer today—just by
the hair on their chinny, chin chins. That’s because they won the first-ever
Bud Light Battle of the Bands competition at the Sauk County Fair. The contest
was held as part of the Fair’s nightly Grandstand entertainment.
Sonic Rush edged out Catch
Penny of Minneapolis by the thin margin of just two points to take the top
honors and the grand-prize cash award. Band members include Kurt Schlieckau,
Chris Alt, Jason Ereel and Joe Bainbridge. They performed classic rock to
current rock.
Some two dozen bands submitted CD samples of their music to compete in the contest sponsored by Bud Light. Of those bands, five were selected to play and compete tonight. The bands encompassed a variety of musical genres with material suitable to all ages.
Catch Penny as well as Gary
and the Gators, Merrimac; A.E.F., New Lisbon; and Happy Ashtray, Baraboo; each
received $300 in prize money. Following the contest, Sonic Rush performed again
in the Litscher Pavilion on the fairgrounds.
In fact, free nightly entertainment
continues in the Litscher Pavilion beer garden with Easy Street playing Friday
night after The Kentucky Headhunters and Darryl Worley each perform on the
stage beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are still available in the Fair Office located
in the Commercial Building on the Fairgrounds on Baraboo's eastisde. Price
is $20 general admission or $25 standing stage-side. On Saturday night, Denny
Dean and the Cadillac Cowboyz perform in the beer garden following the tractor
pull.
