BANDS CAN BATTLE IT OUT ON STAGE

AT 2005 SAUK COUNTY FAIR

BARABOO, WI (March 31, 2005)—Move over “American Idol.” Look out “Nashville Star.” The first-ever “Bud Light Battle of the Bands” competition and concert is coming to the Sauk County Fair Thursday, July 14, at 7 p.m.

Applications are now being accepted from bands that want to compete for one of five spots. A full set of rules and an application form are available at www.saukcountyfair.com/forms/Battle%20of%20the%20Bands-web.htm. The application deadline, which must include a musical CD or cassette, is May 15. The event is co-sponsored by Wisconsin Distributors and the Sauk County Agricultural Society, owner of the Sauk County Fairgrounds and the Fair.

Competition is open to any musical genre, but material must be suitable for general audiences. That’s because Thursday night’s grandstand entertainment will feature the top five bands in concert and competition. The winning band will receive $1,000 and will perform afterwards in the Litscher Pavillion beer garden. The runner-up bands will each receive $300.

Tickets to the “Bud Light Battle of the Bands” are $5 for adults and $2 for kids ages 5-12. Tickets will be on sale about one hour prior to the start of the competition and concert.

The “Bud Light Battle of the Bands” event is one of two new acts added to this year’s 151st annual Fair. The other new grandstand event is “Run What Ya Brung ATV Races” set for Wednesday, July 13, at 7 p.m. at the Fairgrounds. Rules for the ATV races are also available now by going online to www.saukcountyfair.com.

Filling out the grandstand schedule are the Tuesday night Farm and Antique Tractor Pull; Friday night concert by Darryl Worley and The Kentucky Headhunters; Saturday night Pullers Inc. Hot Farm, Truck & Smoker Tractor Pull; and Sunday afternoon and evening Champion Demolition Derby runs.

Admission onto the Fairgrounds, located on Baraboo’s east side, remains free and daily free events include the 4-H Action Center, Barn Yard Theatre, 4-H/FFA projects, Open Class entries, live animals and judging, educational exhibits, commercial vendors and nightly music in the Litscher Pavilion.
